The Portuguese saddle

The current Portuguese saddle evolved from the French saddle of the XVIIIth century. In relation to this last one, it was simplified and gained sobriety.

This harness, especially customized for the "toureio" ( bull fighting ) and stroll, is made of saddletrees, borders and "cochim".

The exterior part is lined with black or natural "seleiro" and acamurçada skin of various colours. The part of the estofos is pespontada to the losangos or in straight lines.

The front and rear parts of the saddletrees are decorated with brass or silverplated nails of conic head.
